How to read a faculty search timeline
Faculty Search Status is a not-for-profit U.S. faculty job search tracker. Find a professor position by university, department, title, or job ID, then check its official listing and any interview or offer reports from the community.
Has a faculty search started interviewing?
An online interview report means a contributor reported a remote interview. An onsite interview report means someone reported an in-person interview, often called a campus interview or campus visit. An offer report records a reported offer. Contributors can give an approximate event date. Updates from external trackers link to their source and label the date as an invitation, offer report, publisher report, or first observation. Those dates can differ from the interview date. All three milestones are unverified. A search with no reports may still be interviewing.
Can a closed faculty job still have interviews?
Yes. The application deadline concerns when an employer accepts applications. A university may conduct interviews and campus visits after applications close. A reported offer does not establish that a candidate accepted it. Check the employer’s posting for deadlines and official instructions.
Which academic jobs are covered?
The directory includes U.S. assistant professor, associate professor, and full professor searches across disciplines. For tenure-track jobs, use the employer’s listing to confirm the appointment type. Coverage varies by institution and source. Alaska and Hawai‘i are searchable through the directory and the map’s search box.
Where do the listings and dates come from?
Records come from reviewed university sources, operator-reviewed additions, and selected metadata from Steven Azeka’s Faculty Atlas. The October 1, 2026 archive is a dated snapshot. Catalog records show their last source observation. An observation date records when a source saw the listing. Each position page links to the employer so you can check current availability.
